Ayurveda

Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit and means the knowledge for long life
(Ayur = Leben, Veda = Science or Knowledge)

Sanskrit is the ancient and beautiful language and script of India

The following quote is from the Astranga Hrdayam, chapter 4.36

Only those, who daily eat healthily and do good, who are discerning (recognizeing good from bad and act wisely), who are not (overly) given to pleasures of the senses, who look for, the gesture of compassion, equality (requires kindness), the truth and develop forgiveness and seek out the company of good people, will remain healthy


Ayurveda is the oldest know holistic medical science. It originates from the old Indian high culture of the Vedes and is seen as the mother of all medicine, as it predates all other forms of holistic treatment.
Ayurveda is the art of living ones daily life in harmony with nature. The goal of this ancient original knowledge is to remain healthy and heal illness. The foundation, is the interaction of the body, mind and soul, ones behavior and the environment.

The great Rishis (wise men) of old India discovered over 5000 years ago through observation, the fundamentals of the processes of life and organized them into systems. Through word of mouth they passed on their knowledge from generation to generation and Ayurveda was born. There are a few modifications to Ayurveda that originate from the first millennium BC. The best know of these is the Charaka Samhita.

Ayurveda had an important role in the development of Chinese and Egyptian medicine. Ayurvedic elements can even be found by Hippocrates. Due to the import of western medicine during the colonial period, Ayurveda fell into misuse. However since 1958 the knowledge has been supported by the Indian government and there is systematic training for doctors. Nowadays 2/3rds of the population are once again being treated  with Ayurveda.

Our daily working lives are dictated by the pressures to succeed and lack of time. Sadly stress has become an accepted part of our lives.
